Kids' Korner

What could be more precious than watching the pure exhilaration on your child’s face after throwing a strike. Hallmark Lanes offers league bowling for children ages 3-18 on Saturday mornings in our Stars of Tomorrow league, fully sanctioned by USBC. Leagues are separated by age grouping: Bantams - up to age 8; Preps - age 9-11; Juniors - age 12-14; and Majors - age 15-18. For the little tykes, we also have a Pee Wee league with bumpers. School-trained coaches are present each league meeting and we have a graduated education program, teaching the kids everything from rules and bowling etiquette to team captain’s duties and league officer responsibilities. We are very adamant about the values of sportsmanship and proper conduct.

Our Papa John's Adult/Youth league bowls on Sunday evenings. 2 or 3-person teams can be any combination of adults and kids. What better way to spend quality time with your kids. Bowling, Papa John's pizza and Pepsi, all for one low price.

While your child bowls, why not earn some scholarship dollars for their college or trade school education. Hallmark Lanes is proud to be enrolled in The Grand Prix Scholarship Program. Originated in Texas over 25 years ago, it has now spread to over 30 states nationwide. This program rewards participation unlike most that tend to reward size, speed or skill. You don’t have to be an Emmit Smith or Troy Aikman, or even Einstein. Every youth bowler is eligible to enroll and earn scholarship dollars - just by participating. It is truly a program where "Everyone is a Winner".

Learn to bowl classes may be available during the summer through the Killeen Parks & Recreation Department, with 8 hours of instruction in the basics of bowling over a two-week period. Normally, we offer four sessions with qualified instructors.

We offer one tournament each quarter for the kids at Easter, Halloween and New Year’s Eve, in addition to the youth Pro-Am during the Killeen Open Southwest Region PBA tournament in August. There are normally Mother’s Day and Father’s Day tournaments, also.

Our local association and the Texas USBC annual youth championship tournaments are always fun for the kids. They also are eligible to compete in the Pepsi Youth Bowling Championships, held annually in Austin each March. The kids enrolled in the Grand Prix Scholarship program also may compete in its own regional and state tournaments.

Kids, ages 12-18 can compete in the Texas All-Star Youth Association travel league. This is a handicap competition, normally bowling once a month from October to March and travel to College Station Fort Hood as well as here in Killeen. The top 50% of the teams in this district competition then advance to the state finals in May.

We also offer participation in the Texas High School Bowling Club.  C.E. Ellison, R.M. Shoemaker, and Copperas Cove High Schools are sponsored by Hallmark Lanes.  In 2007-08, over 140 schools participated in this Club sport for High Schools statewide.  The Shoemaker girls varsity team was the state runner-up in 2004.
