BOHR REPEATS
AS KILLEEN OPEN CHAMPION
Austin native Nathan Bohr successfully defended his SW Region
PBA Killeen Open title by defeating 4-time champion Mike Scroggins of Amarillo,
218-184 in the single game final and taking home the $2,500 first place prize.
The match was even through 5 frames and each struck in the 6th. However, Bohr
put together 2 more strikes while Scroggins opened in the 7th after leaving the
4-6-7 split. Bohr then spared in the 9th and 10th to shut out Scroggins and pick
up his 3rd Killeen Open championship trophy, having won in 2005 and last year.
Bohr was seeded 9th after qualifying and was extended to the limit in the round
of 16 by #8 Rick Lawrence of Waxahachie before prevailing 180-190, 247-225,
247-218, 198-202, 257-223. In the quarterfinals, he was again pressed before
upsetting #1 seed Andy Patterson of Tyler, 246-255, 247-180, 229-204. In the
single game semifinals, he edged Killeen's Mark Gunthorpe 231-201 to reach the
final. Scroggins, the #14 seed, barely got into the finals field by 15 pins. But
in the round of 16, he swept #3 seed David Anthony of Austin 225-210, 267-202,
219-140. He was then pushed by Carrollton's Kurt Gingelbach in the quarterfinals
before prevailing 265-243, 199-245, 216-205. Then he edged #10 Kevin Mitchell of
Tulsa, Oklahoma 227-215 to reach the final.
For the first time in the 14 year history of the Killeen Open, three Killeen
bowlers made it to the match play round. Gunthorpe was seeded 4th and reached
the semifinals. Josh Maxson was seeded 7th and took Kevin Mitchell to the 5th
game before falling when Mitchell struck out in the 10th frame of the final game
to prevail. Keith Desmarais was the #12 seed and also took his opponent,
Keller's Clint Dacy, to the 5th game before falling.

ELLISON
CAPTURES GIRLS STATE BOWLING CROWN
In a battle of Lady Eagles, #2 seed Killeen Ellison edged top seeded Allen to
win the Texas High School Bowling Club girls team championship Saturday at
Bandera Super Bowl in San Antonio. Cindy Gill and Devin Revels led Ellison to
the #2 seed by averaging 222 and 204 respectively in the 3-game qualifying
round. In the best 2 of 3 match play bracket, they topped the #15 seeded Plano
East Lady Panthers 192-147, 177-187, 162-134 before taking out #10 Texas City
163-152, 188-131 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, they were matched
against 2008 champion San Antonio Madison. In one of the most exciting matches
in Club history, Ellison fell to the Lady Mavericks 147-182 in the first game,
then came back to tie the second game at 148, sending it into overtime where
Ellison won the one-ball roll-off 8-7 to send the match into the deciding 3rd
game. Ellison fell behind early in the final game, then clawed back to take the
lead heading into the 10th frame. But Madison was not done. The Madison anchor
bowler struck twice and needed an 8 count to tie and 9 to win, but came up a pin
short with a 7 count sending Ellison into the championship match against 3-time
and defending champion Allen with the 186-185 victory. In the first game of the
finals, the two heavyweights traded punches before Allen pulled away late to win
153-180. Ellison trailed in the second game before coming back to eke out a
173-171 victory, setting the stage for the winner-take-all final game. Allen
jumped out to an early 20 pin lead after 2 frames and appeared headed to their
4th title. But Ellison would not be denied. They put together a string of
strikes and spares to narrow the gap and finally took the lead in the 7th frame
after an Allen open frame. Gill and Revels then spared in the 8th & 9th frames
before Ellison anchor Brittany Evans spared and struck to shut out Allen and
capture their first state bowling title with a 164-138 victory. Allen made it to
the final by edging #16 seed Boswell 136-118, 116-117, 199-144 in the round of
16, then barely escaped #8 seed Killeen Shoemaker 147-152, 160-150, 176-164 in
the quarterfinals. They then dispatched #4 Spring 214-152, 192-151 to reach the
final.
Ellison team members, who are all seniors, are Amanda Taylor, Jerica Horn, Cindy
Gill, Brittany Evans, Devin Revels, and Victoria Thurston. The Ellison Lady
Eagles are coached by Karin Ciesiolka.

CINDY GILL TAKES GIRLS SINGLES TITLES

Gill shot a 599 series in the qualifying round to earn a #10 seed for the match play round of 16. In that round, she topped #7 Jeanette Van Gundy of San Antonio Madison 205-152, 212-190 before upsetting #3 Kiara Grant of Austin NYOS 232-210, 225-214 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she won a thriller over 2008 champion Danielle Walker of Keller Central 180-176 to reach the final. Jessica Cantu of San Antonio Brandies, the #1 seed, reached the final by dispatching #16 seed DeLaney Rowald of Round Rock 203-137, 195-137 in the round of 16 and #8 seed Desiree Ziegler of Austin McCallum 206-164, 214-161. She reached the final by topping #12 seed Alexandra Perez of San Antonio O'Connor 211-148. The championship match was close throughout as neither Gill nor Cantu had an open frame. Gill struck in the 3rd, 4th & 5th frames to open a 27 pin lead, but Cantu doubled in the 8th to cut the lead to 12. Cantu struck and spared in the 10th to finish with 201, forcing Gill to make either a strike or spare to win. Gill left a solid 10 pin in the 10th, but picked it up and threw a 9-count to finish with 211 and a 10 pin victory.
GET YOUR LEAGUE STANDINGS SENT TO YOU VIA E-MAIL -- FREE
We’ve had a few inquiries as to how to get your league standings e-mailed to you via leaguesecretary.com. Some folks are telling us they are being asked to pay. NOT SO!!. They’re just not going to the right place on the web. Here’s how you do it:
1. Using you web browser, go to www.leaguesecretary.com. 2. On the home page, there’s a box on the left side that says "Search", then lists "Centers", "League", or "Standings". It’s probably easier to click on "Centers". 3. When you click on "Centers", you’ve got two options: Search by Location or Search by Zip Code. Use the Zip Code option and type in "76542" and click on "Search". 4. Here you’ll see four bowling centers listed, two on Fort Hood that are no longer in business, Hallmark, and Killeen Bowlerama. 5. Click on "Show Leagues" under Hallmark Lanes. 6. Scroll down that page until you find your league. Click on your league name. That will bring up a data screen for your league. 7. In big red letters, you are asked to either "Log on" or "Register". By clicking on "Register", it will bring you to a page that asks for a User Name, E-mail address, your first and last name, and your Date of birth. Enter that data, then click "Register". If all is correct, you will soon receive a confirmation notice via e-mail telling you the registration is complete and valid. When that’s done, there’s nothing else you have to do. Each time we process your league and send it to leaguesecretary.com, you’ll automatically receive a e-mail with the standings.
